ONESuit® TEC/ONESuit® Flash
Frequently Asked Questions

What is ONESuit® TEC?
ONESuit® TEC is an innovative single-skin protective suit that protects the wearer from exposure to chemical/biological agents and industrial chemicals in both liquid and vapor form. It also resists tears, punctures, abrasion and flame.

What is ONESuit® Flash?
ONESuit® Flash provides all the features and performance of ONESuit® TEC, with additional protection against chemical flash fires.

What makes ONESuit® TEC unique?
ONESuit® TEC is designed to provide the same degree of protection against flame that other protective suits can only achieve through the use of an over-cover. Wearers of other protective suit systems sometimes decide not to wear the over-cover in order to gain enhanced mobility, leaving them vulnerable. With ONESuit® TEC, you don't have to sacrifice protection for comfort and agility.

What makes ONESuit® Flash unique?
ONESuit® Flash is the only hazmat suit on the market that provides chemical flash fire protection in addition to protection against hazardous materials in both liquid and vapor form.

What do ONESuit® TEC and ONESuit® Flash protect against?
Under Testing you'll find all of the chemicals that ONESuit® TEC, ONESuit® Flash and their constituent components -- garment material (both before and after flex and abrasion) and seams, and visor material -- have been tested against, including 27 industrial chemicals and biological agents from NFPA 1991-2005 (28 for the garment material). All chemicals surpassed the required minimum of 1-hour protection at over 8 hours.

What standards are ONESuit® TEC and ONESuit® Flash certified to?
ONESuit® TEC is certified to NFPA, 1991: Standard on Vapor-Protective Ensembles for Hazardous Materials Emergencies (2005 Edition), with Liquefied Gas Option included. ONESuit® Flash is also certified to the Chemical Flash Fire Option under NFPA 1991.

What does this standard mean?
NFPA 1991 provides the ultimate protection of the hazmat standards -- it is to be used in extreme hot zones where it is either known that hazardous vapors are present, or the threat is not known. The suits in this standard are loosely referred to as "Level A" or "vapor-tight" suits.

Who are the suits certified through?
SEI (Safety Equipment Institute) www.seinet.org 703-442-5732.

What chemicals will ONESuit® TEC and ONESuit® Flash protect against?

The User Guide and Technical Manual shows all of the chemicals that ONESuit® TEC and ONESuit® Flash are currently tested against. However, please contact Saint-Gobain for the latest update, as
new chemicals are continually being tested. The suit is to be pressure-tested prior to EVERY use. If a leak is found in the suit discontinue use IMMEDIATELY.

What is the expected life span of the products?
There is no shelf-life data for the materials within ONESuit® TEC/ONESuit® Flash. At a minimum, the suits should be both visually inspected and pressure-tested once a year; this test should be documented for future reference. If there is any question about the condition of the suit, discontinue use IMMEDIATELY.

How do I store the suits?
ONESuit® TEC and ONESuit® Flash should be stored in a safe and dry place, with the temperature maintained between 25ºF (-4ºC) and 110ºF (43ºC). The zipper should be completely open. The suit may be stored either in the supplied storage bag or on a hanger, and should always be stored with the zipper in the fully open position. Be sure to maintain inspection and testing at specified intervals, even when the suit has not been in use.

Are there specific cleaning procedures I need to follow?
ONESuit® TEC and ONESuit® Flash should be cleaned after each use when it has been worn for routine operations but not subjected to chemical or biological contamination. For cleaning the suit, liquid dish washing detergent may be used along with a disinfectant at the ratio of 1 oz. each per gallon of warm water. Using a soft, clean rag, gently rub the cleaning solution over the inside and outside surfaces of the suit. Using a different soft, clean rag and warm water, gently rinse the entire suit. To dry the suit, either lay the suit out so that the inside and outside surfaces receive ventilation for drying, or place on a hanger.

Can ONESuit® TEC and ONESuit® Flash be decontaminated?
Refer to departmental guidelines for decontamination practices and procedures. ONESuit® TEC and ONESuit® Flash will withstand exposure to some chemical agents without degradation. Following decontamination, perform a full inspection and leak test on the garment to determine if it is suitable for continued use.
